What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is an ancient medical system and spiritual science originating several thousand years ago. It was historically recorded by the enlightened saints of India for the benefit of mankind. Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term made up of two words: ayu, meaning life, and veda, meaning science of or knowledge. Thus, Ayurveda means the science of life. This system teaches that the human body has a natural healing intelligence capable of rejuvenating itself by cultivating a proper diet and healthy lifestyle. When one’s own uniqueness is discovered, health may be achieved and maintained over the course of a lifetime through herbal remedies, massage techniques, purification therapies, yoga and spiritual practices which restore the balance of body, mind and spirit. Ayurveda is a holistic model that encompasses all aspects of being to create a harmonious way of life that is natural, free of harmful side effects and is especially relevant today.
“Ayurveda is beyond beginning and ending. A science of eternal healing,
it is compared to a vast ocean and studying Ayurveda to swim across.
A true teacher can teach one how to swim, but the swimming is up to the
student; it is a life long journey.”
